Teamster D.R.I.V.E.D.R.I.V.E. – Democratic, Republican, Independent Voter Education is the Political Action Committee of the Teamsters Union. Through D.R.I.V.E., Local 916 supports candidates that are labor friendly and legislative initiatives that benefit our members. Local 916 members have seen numerous benefits through their union’s decision to actively participate in the legislative process.

As a result, the number of members choosing to contribute to D.R.I.V.E. through payroll deduction has increased more than 1000% since January 2001.

Legislative Victories:

Highway Maintainers Pension Bill

HB 267 added highway and tollway maintainers employed by IDOT to the state’s alternative pension formula. Full-time maintainers with at least 20 years service are eligible for an enhanced pension.

Scott's LawScott’s Law

HB 180 enacted tougher penalties for drivers who fail to reduce speed or yield to emergency vehicles at crash scenes, causing injury or death to emergency workers. This law also covers careless drivers who injure or kill highway maintainers working along Illinois roads.

School-Work Speed Zone

HB 3246 doubled the minimum fine from $150 to $300 for a second or subsequent violation of the school or work zone speed limit provisions.

Military Buy-Back

HB 513 allowed veterans to buy back up to two years of military credit at a reduced rate, due to changing the method of calculating interest.
