State News

Governor Quinn’s Budget Proposal:

As part of Governor Quinn’s Budget 1.3 billion in cuts, the Governor is asking State Workers to take the brunt of this cut. A summary of his budget includes:

  • A 2% increase as a pension contribution from each state employee
  • Each employee will have to take additional furlough days again resulting in a 1.5% cut in pay
  • State employees will have to pay more for their health insurance.

The Governor’s budget equates to an approximate 6% cut in pay for workers while exposing them to a possibility of higher taxes. Cutting and increasing the cost of benefits to the hard working members of this state is not the answer.

Employee Free Choice Act:
The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) respects that the right to join a union is a fundamental freedom, just like freedom of speech or religion, and that employees should be able to do so without interference from management. This is the most important Labor Legislation in our lifetime.  It is imperative that you find out more information about it on our page and show your support of the EFCA.  Click here to show your support.
